New beginnings, new hair

In collaboration with Parturi-kampaamo Hius

It’s funny how seeing leaves fall from the trees and returning back to my day-to-day routines after the summer always feels so much more like a new beginning than the start of a calendar year ever has for me. The end of summer has always marked the start of something new as well as the closing of a chapter and this year is no different. Summer in Helsinki was amazing but I was so glad to come back to my home town and my own apartment.

I think that the turning of a new page in life always calls for a visit to the hair salon. This week I also had a facial treatment, which was sooo good and I booked a massage for myself as a reward for handing in my thesis and getting two exams out of the way. This week and all the pampering has given me a chance to calm down and recharge after an exhausting first week back and I feel more than ready for all the lovely and exciting things that lie ahead. On Saturday I’ll be travelling to England for a week to see my sister off to university and after I get back I’ll be starting at a new gym.

Anyway, let’s get to the point: my hair was very dry after the summer and the color had also faded in the sun. Luckily my go-to hairdresser was able to bring my hair back to life. As you can see from the ‘before’ picture the colour of my hair was disturbingly uneven, which made it look even more brittle than it actually was.

So here’s what was done to my hair:

  1. Colour

The colour that was used is very close to my own natural colour. I usually don’t even look at any colour charts etc. because I can trust my hairdresser to recommend the perfect shade for me. The aim was to even out the tone and achieve a cooler shade of brown and I have to say I’m very happy with the end result.

  2. Wellaplex treatment

I always take the Wellaplex treatment when my hair is coloured. The treatment strengthens the hair and helps repair inner hair bonds, which is essential especially for long hair. The treatment gave my sun damaged hair just the revitalization it was screaming for. (The Wellaplex treatment can be done at Hius during a colour service or on its own so you don’t have to colour your hair in order to get the treatment done.)

  3. TRIMMING the SPLIT ends And LAYERING

I had all the dry ends cut which was around 2-5 cm and then some layers (up to 10 cm was cut in some parts) to make the hair less heavy at the top and give it more shape. I think my hair looks better with layers especially when I wear it up and in a ponytail.
